Overview

This subject is an intensive introduction to the law of intellectual property, with major emphasis on U.S. patent law, and copyrights, provides a look at trademarks and trade secrets, and presents comparisons of what can and cannot be protected, and what rights the owner does and does not obtain. 

Issues relating to information technology, biogenetic materials, and business methods are highlighted. Most of the assigned readings are case decisions and excerpts from federal statutes. 

Course Outcomes:

1. It allows students how to prepare and protect the Inventions, start-up ideas, and rights of patents and copyrights, etc.,

2. Students get knowledge on Trademarks and Trade Secrets.

3. This subject brings awareness to the students on the various types of Unfair Competition and the Students get well versed with exposure to licensing and transfer of Copyrights and Patents

4. Student gets. Awareness of Cyber laws and Cyber Crime, to protect the data from Cybercrime.

5. Summarize the Intellectual property rights globally and exposure to the emerging trends In IPR.

Guno Ritfeld is a retired Department of Defense Commissioned Officer. He has earned a B.A. in Psychology/Education, a Juris Doctorate (J.D.), and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree. He is certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Circuit Civil, Family, and County mediator and has served as a County mediator at the Orange County courthouse. He served as a member of the City of Orlando Certification Appeals Board and Chapter 57 Discrimination Board, and as a contract Human Rights Mediator and Administrative Investigator for various state and federal agencies. He is an experienced commercial, workplace, and family dispute mediator and arbitrator.
