Short Course Description
In this 50-minute presentation, we will take a look back at the birth of Mediation and its evolution as a modern conflict resolution tactic - its origins and place in modern-day society.
We will also cover three popular styles, Facilitative, Evaluative, and Transformative, and take a deeper look at the ins and outs of each, which type of dispute they fit the best, and when/why you might want to adopt each approach. We'll then discuss specific Florida Mediation Rules and various Sanctions that have been dispensed.

Great job and thanks for the review.
Got several useful ideas from this well-organized and well presented course. The discussion of the three major styles was unusually clear. I valued the contrasts provided between transformative vs facilitative and evaluative styles. There was a useful discussion of the difficulty of providing adequate time in court ordered mediation, especially County mediation. All too often the mediator cannot give adequate time to support the parties’ right of self determination. Certainly a mediator is not going to have time for any transformative mediation. The participant discussed a community based program in her area to try to fill that gap.
All in all, this was one of the most useful online courses I have taken. I should note I took the video version as I had missed the “live” session.
